PUBLIC PERFORMANCES 2012

Celebrations commemorating the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 have commenced and Maja has many bookings for private functions and both conference and corporate groups. In high demand are her dramatic portrayals as Laura Secord and Niagara-on-the-Lake walking tours. Between historic based presentations, Maja continues to perform from her contemporary repertoire. The following is a list of public appearances:

A workshop reading of her play about opera singer Maria Callas.
Maja is pleased to announce that her brother actor, Guy Bannerman, will be portraying the male roles.

Celebrating Poet Irving Layton
Readings, Recollections & Discussion

To mark the Centenary of Layton's birth.
The first set features readings by poets Maja Bannerman, Gregory Betts and Terrance Cox and Layton biographer, Elspeth Cameron. Led by Stan Skrzeszewski, the second set features a discussion with the audience on Poetry, Freedom & Guilt: The Works of Irving Layton.

Maja performs as Laura Secord and reads an excerpt of her play for young audiences, Katie Ward Meets Laura Secord ~ A Superunnatural Fairytale ~

As a recipient of an Ontario Arts Council grant, Maja developed this work during a Playwright-in-Residency under the guidance of Carousel Players.

Play Synopsis
Fourteen-year-old Katie is really looking forward to her summer. Not only will her all girl band have lots of time to practice, but she is also thrilled to have been hired as a tour guide at the Laura Secord Homestead in Queenston. This is this just the beginning of her adventure. An adventure that will change her life!

Saturday June 23rd 5PM
DeCew Park

Maja performs as Laura Secord at this important heritage site. DeCew House was the destination for Laura when she set out on her celebrated trek from Queenston over the rough terrain of the Niagara Escarpment in June of 1813 to warn the British military of an impending American attack. The foundation of DeCew House has been preserved as a memorial and a park site.
In this dramatic portrayal as Canada's beloved heroine, Maja will reveal the life of women during the war.
